Lighting is a vital component of your home's interior and décor. With proper lighting, you can improve the overall mood of a room and create a bright and warm ambiance. Also, expertly placed lighting plays a critical role in your home's interior design. The lighting will complement and highlight focal points in the room, such as unique architectural design, textures, artwork, and finishes.

In addition, proper lighting can improve your health, space, and productivity and add value to your home. And don't forget most modern lighting fixtures are energy-efficient (LED) and can lower your electricity bills! Indoor lighting presents numerous functional, aesthetics, and economic benefits.

During an in-home consultation, we meet with each customer to understand and determine how each space is going to be utilized. This extra personalized step allows us to ensure that we are designing and specifying lighting that suits your needs and will perform in your spaces the way that you expect.

SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION

We can help you create the setting you want and choose the perfect indoor lighting for your space. Here are the four different types of indoor lighting that we can help advise you on during a consultation.

1. AMBIENT LIGHTING

Ambient lighting, also known as general lighting, serves as the primary source of light for every room. This light often illuminates in a soft, comfortable glow to support the room's functionality. However, depending on the function of the room you want to illuminate, you can still use dimmers to adjust ambient light intensity.

Ambient Lighting

Apart from serving the basic function of providing light, ambient lighting enhances the room's warmth and ambiance and sets the tone. Some common fixtures to help create ambient lighting include track lights, chandeliers, ceiling fans, pendants, and wall and ceiling scones.

2. TASK LIGHTING

If you need to light your workstation, reading area, or makeup area, task lighting is specifically for this purpose. The lights are more concentrated and can offer more visibility towards completing a specific activity.

Task lights have less aggressive bulbs and are adjustable to reduce eye strain and help you focus. Also, these lights allow you to modify them when you work to suit your preference and needs for extra comfort.

Task Lighting

Apart from choosing the perfect task light to meet your specific needs, make sure the lights also complement the room's current lighting. Examples of task lighting include lights for makeup, reading, office, stove cooking, and under cabinets. Also, strip or pendant lights over the cooking area also create task lighting.

3. ACCENT LIGHTING

Like task lighting, accent lighting focuses illumination on a particular area in a room. However, the only difference is accent lighting highlights a particular object or feature. This lighting is primarily for aesthetic purposes and not for functionality. Thus, if you have artwork, furnishings, paintings, photos, or other pieces in the room you want to emphasize, use accent lighting.

Accent Lighting

Accent lighting helps to spotlight your wall décor, improve the room's atmosphere, and add dimension to your space. Recessed lights, wall scones, picture lights, string lights, cabinet lighting, and track lighting are examples of accent lighting.

4. MOOD LIGHTING

Mood lighting helps to create a certain atmosphere in a room. Whether you want a peaceful, theatrical, relaxing, or fun atmosphere, mood lighting can help achieve it. Mood lights are energy-efficient and also easy to install. Thus, you can easily fix the lights in any room where you want a different atmosphere without worrying about increased electricity bills.

Mood Lighting

Some spaces in your home ideal for mood lighting include the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, and dining room. Also, depending on the specific atmosphere you want in a room, you have numerous colors to pick from. For instance, blue is ideal if you want to increase productivity in your home office. But if you want to stimulate conversation in the dining or living room, red will work best.

Indoor lighting can make or break a room. For a functional, comfy, and peaceful living space, pick the right indoor lighting.
